PsychoBible
Welcome to PsychoBible, babbling about psychology and theology!

I'm Andrew Rodriguez, a Christian therapist, speaker, and former youth pastor. In my counseling, I specialize in sexual and relational issues. PsychoBible is my outlet for discussing ideas about the intersection of Christianity and psychology, especially regarding sexuality and cultural issues.

Some topics to expect: Theology of the Body, therapy for unwanted same-sex attraction, and the culture war.

Results of Surveying LGB- and Non-LGB People with SSA: Christopher Rosik Interview

Is conservative religious involvement inherently harmful for same-sex attracted people? If people have distress over their same-sex attractions or behavior, which approaches are reliably helpful and which may be most harmful?
I'm excited to present this interview with Dr. Christopher Rosik, clinical psychologist and researcher, to discuss a couple studies he co-authored using the data from the 4 Options Survey, which gathered an abundance of data from people with same-sex attraction! (And this survey was conducted by an ideologically diverse group of researchers!) One study examined the effect of religiousness on internalized homonegativity and depression, anxiety, and poor physical health outcomes. Having an Open Heart to the Brokenhearted and Homeless | Interviewing My Parents

In honor of my parents' birthdays (Dec. 16 and 17), I interview them to discuss Open Heart Ministry, their service to the homeless and displaced in Myrtle Beach, SC. Luis and Marilyn Rodriguez are chaplains with years of experience doing lay ministry and pastoral work, such as mission trips, prison ministry, helping people in addiction recovery, teaching ESL and GED training, and caring for the elderly. I admire my parents for always being open to the Holy Spirit leading them to show people their worth.

Answers to Gender Madness | Christine Sneeringer Interview

I'm honored to present this interview with Christine Sneeringer, director of Worthy Creations. We discuss her story of sexual redemption, coming to Christ as a lesbian in a church softball team. She served alongside the late Sy Rogers for 20 years, producing his videos, so we reminisce about Sy. And we cover Christine's new book, "Answers to Gender Madness," reviewing the chapter on do's and don'ts for parents when their child announces a trans identity. There are some great nuggets in this conversation. Be blessed!

Change How You Feel with the Schema Disconfirmation Exercise

This brief exercise is a homework routine you can use to transform outdated schemas (templates for how you feel, believe, and act). In this video, we'll review schema formation and the counteractive and memory reconsolidation approaches to changing schemas, then learn how to practice changing your implicit learning on your own. This schema disconfirmation exercise is an excellent follow-up to the coherence script I previously taught.
