PsychoBible
Welcome to PsychoBible, babbling about psychology and theology!

I'm Andrew Rodriguez, a Christian therapist, speaker, and former youth pastor. In my counseling, I specialize in sexual and relational issues. PsychoBible is my outlet for discussing ideas about the intersection of Christianity and psychology, especially regarding sexuality and cultural issues.

Some topics to expect: Theology of the Body, therapy for unwanted same-sex attraction, and the culture war.

Incarnational Counseling: Mindfulness and Christianity

Should Christians engage in mindfulness-based therapies? We're in the midst of a mindfulness revolution in the West. For Christians and Christian counselors, we face the dilemma of how to approach this practice that seems to be based in Eastern mysticism. In this video, I explain how I navigated this topic over the past several years. As I've learned more about what mindfulness actually is, I see how the basic core of mindfulness is not only compatible with Christianity, but if we also view it as "bodyfulness" (as Eric Gentry calls it), it fits quite well with Theology of the Body. And I've learned Christianity has always had its own version of mindfulness, so we're not left with borrowing from other religions.

The Lawn Skeleton Trend: Symbols of the Culture of Death

I've been noticing over the past few years this trend in my town of people leaving out their Halloween decorations way past October . . . particularly lawn skeletons. What is the symbolic meaning of this phenomenon? Here are my thoughts.

Tell the Truth: My Advice to Psychology Students

Here's an addendum to my story of discrimination in graduate school for offering counseling to people with unwanted same-sex attraction. What is my advice to students pursuing a career in the helping professions (psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, social work, etc.)? Seek and speak the truth no matter what. Here's why (featuring words from Jordan Peterson and M. Scott Peck).

Persecuted in Graduate School for Helping People with Unwanted SSA | Looking Back 10 Years Later

I recorded this video on 6/25/25, the 10th anniversary of receiving the email that changed my life. I was four weeks away from finishing my year-long internship and graduating with my master's in counseling psychology. Then, the head of the internship program at Chestnut Hill College emailed me to stop my internship immediately because of my work with men coping with unwanted same-sex attraction. I've told my story in different venues before, including an article for the Journal of Human Sexuality, but here is the full story . . . with no censorship or redactions.
