Something too few people are talking about is the relationship between same-sex attraction and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). OCD is disproportionately present among individuals with same-sex attraction compared against those with no same-sex attraction. Additionally, there's a subtype of OCD called HOCD (homosexuality OCD) or Sexual Orientation OCD, which is an obsessive concern about being gay, independent of having any actual same-sex attraction. In this video, I'm joined by fellow Reintegrative Therapist Michael Gasparro to discuss the causative links between OCD and SSA as well as counseling approaches. Going along with the recent videos I've done on shame and guilt, I invited onto my channel Dr. Diera Shaw-Mendez to share the presentation she did with her husband, Juan Mendez, at the July 2026 First Love Unbroken Conference. She and Juan co-direct Hope House for Our Families, operating discipleship homes in New Jersey for people in recovery. For her doctor in education degree at Liberty University, she completed a dissertation with research on the elements of moral injury and spiritual struggles that are so often missing from recovery treatment plans. We touch on some topics that are critical for my clients and so many others struggling with patterns of sin.
