Joe is a very well-known counselor, author, and past-president of Exodus International, the former network of ministries for sexuality strugglers. We also both serve in ReStory Ministries, which resources the church to address LGBT issues and minister to sexuality strugglers. In this interview, we dive into his personal story of salvation, ministry, backsliding into gay activism, then back to orthodoxy, and being called to counsel others leaving homosexuality. I recorded this video on 6/25/25, the 10th anniversary of receiving the email that changed my life. I was four weeks away from finishing my year-long internship and graduating with my master's in counseling psychology. Then, the head of the internship program at Chestnut Hill College emailed me to stop my internship immediately because of my work with men coping with unwanted same-sex attraction.
