Here's a reflection on the two different approaches in conservative Christianity to sexual sin, such as porn, sexual addiction, and homosexual behavior and unwanted same-sex eroticization. The purity culture mindset sees such struggles only as sins caused by our sinful nature; therefore the emphasis is on repentance and accountability. The "outgrowing porn" approach (sexual integration and maturation) affirms the goodness of our sexuality while seeing patterns of sexual sin and deviant attractions and arousal templates as rooted in our lack of sexual development and childhood experiences; therefore, the emphasis is on curiosity and compassion. Let's compare the two approaches and see how the Husband Material community and Desert Stream Ministries' Living Waters program (as well as Reintegrative Therapy) serve as ideal examples of the outgrowing sexual sin model.

I've been noticing over the past few years this trend in my town of people leaving out their Halloween decorations way past October . . . particularly lawn skeletons. What is the symbolic meaning of this phenomenon? Here are my thoughts.

Here's an addendum to my story of discrimination in graduate school for offering counseling to people with unwanted same-sex attraction. What is my advice to students pursuing a career in the helping professions (psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, social work, etc.)? Seek and speak the truth no matter what. Here's why (featuring words from Jordan Peterson and M. Scott Peck).

I recorded this video on 6/25/25, the 10th anniversary of receiving the email that changed my life. I was four weeks away from finishing my year-long internship and graduating with my master's in counseling psychology. Then, the head of the internship program at Chestnut Hill College emailed me to stop my internship immediately because of my work with men coping with unwanted same-sex attraction. I've told my story in different venues before, including an article for the Journal of Human Sexuality, but here is the full story . . . with no censorship or redactions.
