PsychoBible
Welcome to PsychoBible, babbling about psychology and theology!

I'm Andrew Rodriguez, a Christian therapist, speaker, and former youth pastor. In my counseling, I specialize in sexual and relational issues. PsychoBible is my outlet for discussing ideas about the intersection of Christianity and psychology, especially regarding sexuality and cultural issues.

Some topics to expect: Theology of the Body, therapy for unwanted same-sex attraction, and the culture war.

Transformational Change of Attachment, Schemas, and Sexuality through Memory Reconsolidation

What does psychological, emotional, and sexual change entail? Before we dive into the change process for the sexuality issues I usually address, it would be good to review the processes of transformational change of emotions, behavioral problems, attachment styles, and outdated schemas. We'll see how experiential therapies--and even certain ministry approaches--use memory reconsolidation to edit the emotions, behaviors, and core beliefs associated with implicit memories. If you're a client, this would be a great video to help orient you to the therapy process.

Tell the Truth: My Advice to Psychology Students

Here's an addendum to my story of discrimination in graduate school for offering counseling to people with unwanted same-sex attraction. What is my advice to students pursuing a career in the helping professions (psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, social work, etc.)? Seek and speak the truth no matter what. Here's why (featuring words from Jordan Peterson and M. Scott Peck).

Persecuted in Graduate School for Helping People with Unwanted SSA | Looking Back 10 Years Later

I recorded this video on 6/25/25, the 10th anniversary of receiving the email that changed my life. I was four weeks away from finishing my year-long internship and graduating with my master's in counseling psychology. Then, the head of the internship program at Chestnut Hill College emailed me to stop my internship immediately because of my work with men coping with unwanted same-sex attraction. I've told my story in different venues before, including an article for the Journal of Human Sexuality, but here is the full story . . . with no censorship or redactions.

Competent & Compassionate Counseling for Unwanted SSA | First Love Unbroken Review and Presentation

Here's my recap and reflection on attending First Love Unbroken's inaugural Surrender conference, along with my presentation on Competent and Compassionate Counseling for Unwanted Same-Sex Attraction. (I'm sincerely sorry for going way past my time!) There were three events in three locations in southern NJ: the dinner at Lake Lenape, the conference at Stockton University, and all-day Christian hip hop concert and outreach at the Atlantic City boardwalk. I was excited to meet several people and make some new friends. Overall, this was a very encouraging time.
